Founded in 1791 and names in honor of George Washington, our first President, Washington DC is the Capital of the United States of America. With a population of just under 700,000, which swells to over a million during the workweek with commuters and year-round tourists, it is the principal city of the Washington Metropolitan area, the sixth largest metropolis in the nation, with a combined population base of over 6 million.
Steeped in history, the city is dominated by the Federal government, government related industry, media, museums, memorials, and places of worship. Federal, Neo-classical, Georgian, Victorian, and Beaux-Arts architecture styles dominate the landscape.
Street layout for much of the city having been laid out in 1790s by L’Enfant, the Centurion Group recommends using public transportation, or having your Centurion agent arrange for a car service for your private home tours within Washington DC due to limited parking spaces for the majority of DC neighborhoods.
